High Shear Mixer
(Inline Homogenizer)
After extensive R&D work, HOMMAK developed the Hommix Powder/Liquid and Liquid/Liquid Mixer (powder-liquid blender). Unlike many mixers that draw powder into the chamber, the Hommix Powder/Liquid mixer forces the powder/liquid blend to move as a flowing liquid. This makes it far easier to disperse large volumes of powder.

How Does the Hommix Inline Homogenizer Work?
The Hommix high shear mixer is an inline homogenizer built around a rotor-stator disintegrator system. Its operating principle consists of three stages:
- Suction by vacuum effect: The rotor blades, rotating at high speed, create a vacuum effect inside the housing and draw the mixture toward the rotor-stator assembly.
- Centrifugal force: Driven by centrifugal force, the mixture is forced into the narrow gap between the rotor blades and the inner wall of the stator.
- High shear force: As the liquid and powder particles pass through the narrow channel between the rotor and stator, they are broken down, and the mixture is homogenized at the molecular level.
Because this process takes place along a process line, the machine is also known as an inline homogenizer. Unlike conventional mixers, the Hommix mixer forces the blend to flow in liquid form in order to draw in powder. As a result, large-volume and difficult-to-wet powders — such as carbomer, xanthan gum and milk powder — disperse smoothly in a single pass, with no need for an additional pump or a pre-mixing step.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a high shear mixer and what is it used for?
A high shear mixer is an industrial mixer that homogenizes a blend by breaking it down as it passes through the narrow gap between a high-speed rotating rotor and a stationary stator. It is used in the food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and chemical industries to rapidly dissolve powdered raw materials in liquid, to produce high-viscosity products and to prepare emulsions.
How much does a Hommix mixer cost?
The price of a Hommix high shear mixer varies according to the selected model (E-MX10 – E-MX100+), capacity, motor power, additional features (custom chamber, ATEX conformity, etc.) and export requirements. For exact pricing, you can fill in our quote form or get in touch with our sales team.
What is the difference between a Hommix mixer and a conventional tank mixer?
While conventional tank mixers disperse powder by gravity and a bladed agitator, the Hommix inline homogenizer draws the powder into the blend by vacuum effect and breaks it down with its rotor-stator system, homogenizing it at the molecular level. This delivers 80% energy savings, an 80% shorter production time and superior mixture quality.
Are Hommix mixers CIP- and SIP-compatible?
Yes. Hommix high shear mixers are designed to be fully compatible with Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) and Sterilization-in-Place (SIP) applications. Sterilization time is 30 minutes, and cleaning can be carried out without disassembly in hygiene-critical sectors such as food and pharmaceuticals.
In which sectors are they used?
Hommix mixers are actively used in the milk and dairy, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, chemical and petrochemical, biotechnology and paint industries. They perform especially well with difficult-to-wet powders such as carbomer, xanthan, milk powder and pectin.
What grade of stainless steel are they made from?
All product-contact parts are manufactured from 316L stainless steel, while the body chassis is manufactured from 304 stainless steel. This choice of material provides high corrosion resistance against acidic and abrasive products and supports the FDA/EHEDG compliance required by the food and pharmaceutical industries.
